Dua Lalan, Toraja, Sulawesi. This short sword was used for the ceremonial slaughtering of buffaloes and for wars. Hence his name Dua Lalan meaning "dual purpose". The handle in the traditional shape shows well the resemblance with the Kalao head. It is decorated with spirals and squared flowers. Mandau, Land Dayak, Kalimentan, Borneo. An old Mandau with it's typical deer antler handle with a glossy patina in which can be seen heads, Aso and dragons designs. The scabbard is covered with leeches designs and remains of colored hairs. Two bone side triangles ornate the mouth piece of the scabbard as well as some very fine waved rattan strips. Mandau, Land Dayak, Kalimentan, Borneo. An old and beatifull Mandau with it's typical deer antler handle with a glossy patina in which can be seen Aso and dragons designs. The hair decoration are human. The blade is enriched with red and yellow copper encrusted decorations, mata dj h and mata kelong designs. The scabbard of hard wood is covered with leeches designs and even a mask medallion. Two elaborated bone side triangles ornate the mouth piece of the scabbard. The rattan strips are very elaborated and in good condition. There is no Piso Raout. Two long cord covered with a red fabric and nice beads work are attached as a charm to the scabbard.GL 72 cm. Mandau, Dayak, Borneo. A nice Mandau complete with a sculptured Piso Raout which blade is enriched with some copper decorations. The scabbard in precious dark wood is worked on open work with the Dayak typical style. The straight blade is simple and powerful. The handle is finely sculptured in a deer antler piece; two small heads appear in the elaborate sculpture as well as four scrolls. A shell is attached as a charm to the scabbard.GL 74,5 cm. Parang Niabor, Sarawak, Borneo. Rare Dayak long sword carried for the first head hunt. On the scabbard the snake symbolizes the long way the young hunter has to follow to find his bounty. One can see also a young Dayak carrying a bucket containing the hunted skull. Five coins are glued on the top of scabbard the later being from 1921.
